Scafell Pike via Esk Hause

Come and join us for a fantastic 'tour de force' over England's highest summit, Scafell Pike, via Styhead Tarn and the Corridor Route, returning via Esk Hause.

Starting from Seathwaite farm at the head of Borrowdale. This route passes the beautiful Styhead Tarn, a perfect spot for our first stop looking down into glorious Wasdale, in the shadow of Great Gable. Working our way to the summit, the ascent is less arduous than some of the classic horseshoe routes we offer, as it's just a steady pull up to the top via the famed Corridor Route. The terrain can be tricky in places, but our guides are well practiced at building confidence and providing tips on moving over this type of ground.

We meet the main route up from Wasdale, which can be busy, on the last stretch to the summit. During this part of the route, we all encourage each other and share the spirit and excitement of achieving this goal. It may be busy at the top, but unless you request otherwise, or the weather isn't too kind, it has to be 'Lunch on top of England'!

Our descent weaves around the boulder field passing Broad Crag, Ill Crag and Great End, and covering some loose and steep ground. Rest assured, though: our guides will take you every step – (literally, if required!), and in your own time – over this ground. For those who wish to tick off a second Wainwright, we can take a dogleg to Great End, before returning along an easier, gradually descending path to Esk Hause. There is also an option to tick off Seathwaite Fell (potentially a third Wainwright) on the final descent, or we can decide to return more directly via Grains Gill.

We offer alternative routes starting at Wasdale Head, for an additional £20 (to cover the fuel for your guide). From Wasdale, we can head up and down the easiest main path to the summit, or take a longer option via Styhead Pass and up the Corridor Route.

£175 first walker + £25 each additional walker up to 8 people. For 9 or more, get in touch for a quote.

The main path was busy but Nic knew an unused alternative to the west offering fantastic views along Wastwater and on to the Irish Sea, unseen by almost everyone else. Well we got to the top, and wow – I had done it! l had managed it despite grave doubts that I could, but never would have managed without Nic’s patient guidance and support. Thank you, I will never forget it.

Marvellous day out in the hills with Louise! The organisation of the day was great – very flexible and allowed me to wait to check the forecast and book at the last minute. Was wanting to recce a race route and Louise was incredibly helpful and informative as we went. I feel as prepared as possible now and would highly recommend using the company if anyone is looking for a guide!
