Scheduled courses – learn and share with like-minded people
The NNAS is supported by The National Institute of Navigation, Mountain Training, Ramblers UK and British Orienteering, among others.
The NNAS courses start from the very beginning of your navigational journey, from perhaps feeling intimidated by maps and compass, through to following along the trails marked on the map, to eventually being able to navigate completely off trail, through tricky terrain and by contours only, in poor conditions and at night.
We offer assessment days or online discussions to help assess your NNAS level and which skills you need to practice. Or choose a private one-day navigation course to take your skills to the next level.
Our navigation coach, Nicky Merrett, is one of the leading NNAS course providers, delivering Bronze, Silver and Gold Level certificates via this scheme. Gary, Sean and Rob complete our Navigation Tutor Team.
Beginners
Learn of the basics of 'decoding' Ordnance Survey and Harvey maps to navigate our way safely around the trails and paths. Hands-on, practical and well-paced for complete beginners.
Intermediate
Understand the jump from macro navigation to fine navigation. Get off the beaten track, and gain the skills to do so while on and off trail and on slightly technical terrain. Understand navigation in poor weather conditions and hours of darkness.
Advanced
Building on Bronze & Silver level navigational skills to move to fine contour detail for navigating inhospitable ground, off the beaten track, in potentially tricky weather conditions. Perfect for heading out to lead friends or partnering up on mountain marathons.
